According to The Hollywood Reporter , the 2012 London Olympics will be broadcast in 3D. Details are slightly sketchy, but as many as 10 venues could be covered by 3D cameras. It could also mean that BBC 3D viewers will get the chance to view live 3D events, which would then be licensed to other outlets. NBC has the rights to air the event in the U.S. While no official announcement has been made, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that this coverage will happen. We've seen plenty of 3D sporting events in the past. Why not go for the big one? The 2012 Olympics Games will run from July 27 through Aug 12, 2012.

The service provider has dropped ESPN 3D . According to Consumer Reports , the channel was pulled on Sunday, right before the end of the X-Games, which was being broadcast in 3D. The channel has been part of the AT&T U-Verse lineup since its launch last year, available for $10 per month. AT&T said that customer demand just wasn't high enough to justify keeping the 3D channel. AT&T does plan to keep its 3D video-on-demand service.

Is CBS Planning a 3D Network?

So pretty soon you could be catching all of your "CSIs" and "NCIS" programs in glorious 3D. While it's all just talk at this point, it appears that you'd have to pay to have that sort of 24/7 privilege. Also, the programs wouldn't actually be filmed in 3D; CBS would just convert everything from 2D to 3D, which is something that your 3D TV may be able to do anyway. Do you think that you would pay for this type of service? It's nice that at least one major network is considering a jump into the 3D movement. However, I would definitely need to try before I commited to buy. [Photo: Justina Mintz/CBS ©2011 CBS Broadcasting Inc.
