As the average consumer, i do feel that there isn't enough quality stories as well as visuals to justify the price that people must pay for the 3-D craze. 3-D is very cool, but since there are only just a few, compared to the many standard viewing movies available, most people would rather have a large screen that is affordable than one that is expensive and shows 3-D. Like L.P.'s and
Tape Decks, 3-D should be an option for the consumer to have in his or her home. However,3-D does look very cool, and Hollywood should continue to make movies that are entertaining and visualy stimulating. 3-D is stimulating!!!
Katzenberg says 3D's Decline is Heartbreaking

Along with its rival Disney, Dreamworks Animation has been one of the strongest supporters of 3D video technologies in their entire movie industry.
Recently the movie industry has seen the format's popularity wane as ticket sales have dipped significantly, which has caused executives like Disney CEO Bob Iger and Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg to speak out in defense of the video format.
Katzenberg's comments were made during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and according to the high-profile CEO, the dip in 3D interest is "heartbreaking."
During the interview with The Hollywood Reporter Katzenberg theorizes the movie industry has let the public down by releasing movies that haven't been as entertaining as past titles. "I think 3D right smack in the middle of its terrible twos. We have disappointed our audience multiple times now and because of that, I think there is genuine distrust," he says in the interview. "A year and a half ago there was genuine excitement, enthusiasm and reward for the first group of 3D films that actually delivered a quality experience. Now that's been seriously undermined. It's not in any fashion, shape or form the demise of 3D, but until there are 3D experiences that exceed peoples' expectations, it's going to stay challenged. It's really heartbreaking to see what has been the single greatest opportunity that has happened to the film business in over a decade being harmed. The audience has spoken and they have spoken really loudly."
He predicts that Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon will succeed in winning over 3D movie fans, but he says that ticket prices and Dreamworks' role in the success of 3D aren't factors affecting the plight of the format. "Here's the thing: We are giving our audience a choice. We didn't take a plane and convert it all to first class. To people who say there is price pressure or price sensitivity, even in the family market, I say O.K., that's why we have continued to support a 2D format and made sure the 2D movie we're delivering today is better than the movie we delivered two or three years ago," he says in the story. "We're [Dreamworks] not the problem. We have made five films now in 3D and have built this amazing reservoir of knowledge and tools. Nobody else has made five 3D movies back-to-back. You can see the quality of the experience increasing with every film. the cost has gone down significantly for us the last three yeas and there is still meansinful incremental profit to us, even though the size of our audience has narrowed. On every account 3D is a win. It's not nearly as big a win as it should be and it's certainly not the win it was heading toward being. That's been heartbreaking to me because we have managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory as only Hollywood can do."

Well for me I still only go to the movies if there is a good 3d film playing(No conversion crap), even though it bugs my wife. Green Lantern & Transformers are two must sees for me. Rare occasions I will go see 2d movies, comedy(Hangover 2) being one of them. Otherwise I will just wait to watch it on blu-ray on my beautiful home theater.
Here's my reasons for not going to more 3D movies.
1. They always give my wife and daughter headaches.
2. Always seem darker than non-3D movies.
3. Not willing to pay the $3 difference for evening shows.
4. Not willing to pay the 3x price difference for matinees.
Good Afternoon. After reading some of the post listed here i must agree with some of Doug Deeds reasons for not wanting to see 3-D movies. He say that it always give his wife and daughter headaches. I hear the same complaint from friends that see 3-D films. And also having to pay extra is also a complaint i hear from my friends. I must admit, i myself, have only seen just a few films using this technology. I've seen two films at The SONY IMAX Theater. This Theater has a HUGE screen and good glasses for viewing 3-D movies. I was told by the Theater staff, that the glasses are computer controled. I did enjoy the experience, but i would not want to see all films using this technology. And watching a film that last 2 1/2 to 3hours long can lead to headaches. However, i still think the technology is cool and can only get better. And one more note. The way HOME THEATER is with 50",60",or 70" screens and larger. Then you add the 5.1-5.2-7.1 and 7.2 THX,DOLBY TRUE,and DTS MASTER AUDIO can bring realistic sounds to everyones home. More and more people may just wait for the BLUE RAY OR D.V.D. versions. Plus! You don't have to deal with unruly people talking or using thier DUMB phones.I mean SMART phones.
