Is Microsoft eying 3D?

As the momentum for 3D technologies and products continues to gather steam, most of the major electronics companies have embraced it to varying levels.

Two notable exceptions are Apple and Microsoft, but according to a report from the website The Sixth Axis, the Redmond, Wash.-based technology giant Microsoft may be preparing to enter the 3D category.

The gaming website is speculating that Microsoft could begin to support 3D gaming due to some commentary on another gaming site called MajorNelson.com.

On the MajorNelson site, there's an achived story that outlines a 3D version of the game Crysis 2 by saying it looks stunning in both 2D and 3D. Later in the story the blogger adds the game The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile will also support 3D, and that when the title Fable III launches into the PC gaming category it will support 3D gaming.

Apple also placed a US patent on an auto-stereoscopic 3D display system a couple months ago. So hopefully we will be getting some 3d apple products soon, The future of 3d is looking pretty bright. And yes Crysis 2 in 3d was immpresive.

Thanks for reminding me Pete, that is correct. Current speculation on Apple's participation in the 3D category focuses on the next gen iPhone and the possibility of apps such as Angry Birds 3D.
