My 3D Glasses Experiences and Observations

Although I have them, I rarely wear my eyeglasses.  I also don't wear sunglasses very often, so I'm not used to wearing any kind of glasses.  I wanted to give that background before I go into my thoughts on wearing 3D glasses to watch TV and movies at home, as follows, in no particular order:

Yes, 3D glasses are annoying to wear.  However, I kind of already knew this going in.  I tried them out in several stores and realized that I was going to have deal with wearing glasses while watching movies and shows in order to get this 3D effect.  That was a compromise I was willing to make and still am.  Just because I have to put up with it though doesn't mean I have to like it.

You can't really lay down and watch with 3D glasses.  This one was more of a suprise to me since I don't have glasses, but more obvious after I thought about it after the fact.  It's just plain difficult to watch TV with glasses on in the first place, and even harder with bigger 3D glasses.  I like to occasionally lay down and snooze (or even snuggle) during a movie but the glasses keep me up as it's uncomfortable to lay down with them on.

Glare in the 3D glasses from lights can be distracting.  We sometimes watch with lights on in the other room and if the light is to the side or behind you, there can be a glare on the side of your glasses..  The obvious solution is to watch in the dark, which is what I prefer, but unfortunately, my children don't feel that way.

You can't really do anything else while watching TV with the glasses on.  I've tried folding laundry, working on my computer, looking at the newspaper while watching a sporting event in 3D.  It's just doesn't work well.  Going between the 3D picture and focusing on something else is too difficult for my eyes and brain.  If I'm watching 3D TV, I really can't do anything else.

I'm glad I bought non-rechargable 3D glasses. I have had no issue with my 3D glasses so far regarding normal usage.  I've watched a bunch of movies and TV shows and no batteries have died yet.  When they do, I have a bunch of batteries that I purchased that I can easily change them out.  If I had rechargable ones, I just imagine the pain of having to recharge the glasses over time, trying to find the cord to recharge them with and a place to recharge them. And when I really want to use them, have the battery be dead and unusable until it is recharged.  I encountered this when I used to have a bluetooth headset.  I never would recharge it and when I went to use it, I couldn't and was frustrated.

I agree, 3D glasses can be very annoying to wear. I usually would only wear them when I'm dedicating time out to watch a movie rather than while multi-tasking. I can imagine that experience would be very disorientating, though.
