In move that includes an unspecified amount of money---but for a reported "several million dollars"---the 3D technology company 3Ality has acquired the 3D camera-rig company Element Technica.

The Hollywood Reporter says 3Ality acquired the Los Angeles-based company and quickly renamed itself 3Ality Technica. The two one-time competitors are expected with the merger to form a single powerhouse 3D production equipment company.

Some of the recent projects 3Ality has worked on include The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Geat Gatsby, Jack and the Giant Killer and The Amazing Spiderman. In addition, the two companies, which are now a single entity have begun to make inroads in the 3D broadcast market with 3Ality's work with the U.K.-based company Sky3D and Element Technica's work at events such as the FIFA 2010 soccer World Cup and 2011 Wimbledon tennis championships.

As part of the deal Element Technica's staff will move to 3Ality's Burbank, Calif. headquarters, and Element Technica's two partners, Hector Ortega and Stephen Pizzo will become senior vice presidents at 3Ality.

Another clip, another victim. We have another peek at the upcoming thriller, "Shark Night 3D". Frankly, it seems as though Relativity Media is slowing leaking the entire movie to audiences. Of course, they don't show much gore, but it's PG-13... how much do you think you are really missing?

Below is the latest few seconds from the film, and it looks like Maya (Alyssa Diaz) isn't going to make it. On a happier note, it looks like we can save you $15.

Many consumer electronic and broadcast industry analysts have speculated over the past couple of years that a major hurdle that has impeded the adoption of 3D video is its lack of standards.

Looking to address this problem the Advanced Television Systems Committe Inc. (ATSC) is developing a standard for the broadcast of 3D that will provide the broadcast television community with protocols for the transmission of 3D for fixed and mobile devices.  "The addition of 3D TV over-the-air TV broadcast transmission is part of our ongoing effort to expand the capabilities of the ATSC suite of digital television standards," explains Mark Richer, president of the ATSC.

The ATSC says once the standard is in place it will cover these broadcast scenarios:

• 3D content delivered on one ATSC terrestrial channel to fixed receivers with delivery of both views (left and right) in real time.
• 3D content delviered on one ATSC terrestrial channel to mobile/handheld receivers, and 3D programs within the same channel while ensuring backwards compatibility.

Back in April, we told you that 3D cameras had captured Peter Gabriel in concert at London's Hammersmith Apollo. Now, the concert film appears to have a release date.

NCM Fathom, Omniverse Vision, Eagle Rock Entertainment and Real World made the joint announcement, saying that "Peter Gabriel: New Blood Live in London 3D" will have an exclusive 2-night engagement at 135 select theaters around the country.

Get ready to mark your calendar. The film will make its theatrical debut on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, with one follow-up viewing on Monday, September 12.

Even if you've seen Gabriel in concert before, this should be a pretty unique experience -- and not because of the 3D. Gabriel performed alongside the 46-piece New Blood Orchestra, for "re-imagined orchestral arrangements" of his songs. Some of the tracks to be featured include "Don't Give Up," "Downside Up," "Mercy Street," "The Rhythm of the Heat," "In Your Eyes," "Solsbury Hill" and "San Jacinto."

As if yesterday's "Shark Night 3D" clip wasn't quick enough, we have another today, starring Katharine McPhee. The "American Idol" castoff looks like she's going to be dinner in this clip. Who knows though? The clip is so quick.

OK -- we do. Very few cast members will probably survive "Shark Night 3D," and getting pushed in by some tool doesn't exactly increase your chances.

Apparently, a billion dollars isn't quite enough for Michael Bay and Paramount. The insanely successful third installment of "Transformers" is getting a second life, in glorious IMAX.

IMAX just announced plans to re-release "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" for an extended two-week run. Starting Friday, August 26, the franchise's third film will return to 246 IMAX theaters.

"The fans have spoken and we are excited to bring 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' back to IMAX theatres," said Greg Foster, IMAX chairman and president of Filmed Entertainment. "The film has been a remarkable success and we are thrilled to offer fans in North America another chance to experience the latest chapter in this history making franchise."

The movie has been remastered for IMAX viewing, using IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Despite dismal reviews (see our "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" Review Roundup), the film has made over a billion worldwide so far. Almost $60 million of that haul has specifically come from IMAX theaters.

Between a slowing global economy and fierce market competition television manufacturers have had to reassess their position in the world of consumer video.

A report from the electronics industry blog RapidTVnews.com says that Hitachi recently announced that it would cease domestic (Japan) production of flat-panel televisions in favor of using outsourced products.  In addition, the blog states that Hitachi has also introduced six new flat-panel TV models, including the 50-inch P50-GP08, which it says supports iPad/iPhone control, and includes a number of other features.

Highlighting some of the other features bundled into the 3D TV include the ability to preview a channel before actually switching channels, and the ability to stream a previously recorded show that resides on the TV's 500GB hard drive when used with an iPad or home network.

RapidTVnews.com says an app called Wooo Remote drives the iPad control and streaming functionality, and some of the other features of the 1080p TV include five TV tuners, four HDMI ports, a motion sensor that automatically turns the TV off when a user leaves the room and a claimed contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1.

Once you get past the whole idea of sharks attacking in freshwater, "Shark Night 3D" probably doesn't seem all that bad, does it? Well, wait until you see this clip.

MTV posted a ittle peek of "Shark Night 3D," and when I say that this is the most confusing clip I've ever seen.... a marathon of "Pi, "Vanilla Sky" and "Naked Lunch" probably makes more sense.

Next to Wimbledon, the most prestigious tournament in the sport of tennis is the U.S. Open.

On Aug. 22 the United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that the consumer electronics manufacturer Panasonic will work with CBS Sports to broadcast its annual U.S. Open Tennis Championships in 3D for the second consecutive year. "Working with our partners CBS Sports and Panasonic we once again expect to be a leader in presenting our sports to fans in breathtaking new ways," says Harlan Stone, chief business and communications officer, USTA. "Last year we saw the impressive production values for 3D television and now by including Louis Armstrong Stadium and expanding our distribution, we are bringing this innovative new look to the sports to more people than ever before."

CBS Sports will host and produce both the 2D and 3D broadcasts of the event which will take place from Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City during the weekend of Sept. 9-11.

New Blade Runner! Director Ridley Scott will revisit Philip K. D!ck (yes, our system blurs out that name) and one of our favorite sci-fi films, "Blade Runner." According to MarketSaw, the upcoming film will be a 3D follow-up to the 1982 classic.

Must-See PlayStation TV. Ubergizmo says that the new PlayStation TV will hit Europe this fall.
