Yogi Bear 3D Review Roundup

Apparently, audiences are smarter than the average bear. Warner Bros. released "Yogi Bear" in 3D this past weekend, and the results were anything but a pic-a-nic. The film recouped $16.4 million of its $80 million budget, and we can't imagine that things will look up, given the dismal reviews.

Critics seemed to enjoy some of the 3D effects, but that just wasn't enough to save this movie. Rotten Tomatoes currently has the filmed ranked at 13 percent, meaning that only seven out of 56 critics appreciated Yogi and Boo Boo's big-screen debut.

Dan Aykroyd supplies the voice of Yogi, with Justin Timberlake belting out his best Boo Boo. Sadly, the live-action actors don't have anywhere to hide in this mess. That cast includes Tom Cavanagh, Anna Faris, T.J. Miller, and Nathan Corddry.

Here is what Warner Bros. says:

"Jellystone Park has been losing business, so greedy Mayor Brown decides to shut it down and sell the land. That means families will no longer be able to experience the natural beauty of the outdoors -- and, even worse, Yogi and Boo Boo will be tossed out of the only home they've ever known. Faced with his biggest challenge ever, Yogi must prove that he really is 'smarter than the average bear' as he and Boo Boo join forces with their old nemesis Ranger Smith to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever."

Here is what reviewers say:

"A mix of live-action and digital animation, 'Yogi Bear’' is meant to hit the same commercial sweet spot as the recent 'Alvin and the Chipmunk' movies. Sadly, it’s not even that mediocre. To sucker you into the theater, though, the movie’s in 3D, and decent 3D at that. But there the compliments stop." - Ty Burr, The Boston Globe

"The 3D sends popping popcorn and errant fireworks into the audience and adds excitement to bruin adventures involving a flying machine and whitewater rafting, all shot amid various natural wonders in verdant New Zealand. Unfortunately, the story is so-o-o-o-o tired." - Kirk Honeycutt, The Hollywood Reporter

"Eric Brevig's film, attempting to make Jellystone Park's resident pic-a-nic basket thief more fun, ticks the boxes on some Warner Bros. memo titled "Things Kids Today Like." Fart jokes? Check. 3-D spit takes? Check. Yogi shaking his ursine rump to "Baby Got Back"? Dear Lord, check." - Dan Kois, The Washington Post
